How
are you NOT going to work for a magazine created by a man with
a name like Monte Beauchamp?? My art's been on the covers
of Time and Newsweek about a dozen times, but
being on the cover of Blab! has been a bigger thrill than all
of them. I guess it's because just about everybody I admire
the most these days is in there. And, oh, that big 10"
x 10" page Monte inspires you to fill.
The
front cover features a woman, uhhh... blabbing! We used
to have this nosy Methodist next door neighbor in Jersey with
the jarring name of Dot Pipple, and she just never shut
up. There she'd be, yakking and dishing away through my studio
window screen, 'cause we wouldn't let her in the house. All
I had to do was picture Dot on benzadrine, and there
was my cover!
Some
tell me that the guy on the "mirror" back cover is
laughing, while others say he's crying. That ambiguous emotion
toward Dot's ceaseless blabbing is exactly what I wanted. Truth
be told, the drawing is actually done from a photo of me...
the only model I could afford!
